Detail of Tallin to Moscow overnight
A few years earlier we did a trip further east on the Baltic coast from Tallin to the Russian border at Narva (and then onto St Petersburg). As I recall the Moscow sleeper usually took a different and electrified route. But luckily on this occasion it was diverted to Narva (where we wanted to go) with a TEP 70 at the helm. Otherwise we would have been on the once a day all stations unit, though admittedly at far less cost. You knew you were on a Russian train as the fearsome Russian train ladies bossed us about and subdued a drunk with harsh words and a broom.
